Just two days before Christmas a woman returns home to find someone has stolen her precious pet and now she's canvassing her neighborhood hoping to get him back.
"He's a sweet little boy, very special guy, we just want to get him home to his mom," said a neighbor.
"Leo," a 10-year-old Yorkie, has been missing since Friday afternoon after someone broke into Anita MacLannen's apartment.
"Leo never runs away, never, even if they leave the door open he would be here, and I know he would be here," MacLannen said.
She said she came home from Christmas shopping around 3 p.m. to find her apartment had been burglarized.
Two flat screens TV's were yanked right off the wall and her entire jewelry box was gone. But her shock turned to terror when she realized her best friend was stolen during the heist.
"I was screaming, crying, calling for help, I just broke down," she said.
Leo is well-known in the neighborhood as a happy dog who has lots of energy, a way with cats and was always within a leash-length from Anita.
"This is the sweetest, cutest dog. I mean, this is a dog neighborhood and this is the best dog in the neighborhood," said one neighbor.
Friends put up fliers in the area and the $1000 reward was quickly doubled by a generous neighbor.
Fort Lauderdale police dusted for fingerprints and investigators are working the case.
But Anita is hopeful that someone remember her story on Christmas morning, if by chance her best friend find himself under someone's tree.
"So, if anybody gets a Christmas present just like this, and he listens to his name, Leo, that's my dog," MacLannen said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Lauderdale Police.
