Two people were injured when a parking garage that was being demolished near the Broward County Courthouse collapsed.
It happened at Southeast 6th Street and Andrews Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
As demolition crews from Miami Wrecking were working, the four-story structure known as the judge's garage suddenly collapsed.
"I am seeing the guy with the excavator, like, eat away the place. As he was eating away, the next thing you know all of this stuffs flying and you hear loud noise of stuff like popping loose," said Gerald Short. "Then the whole building just came crushing down and then all you see is guys running towards my truck. When they ran towards my truck, the whole street just turned black."
The person suffered minor injuries, said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
"It was a security ground guy to keep pedestrians away from the structure while they were tearing it down and when the building collapsed, some of the debris pushed out and injured him, but just minor injuries," said Timothy Blank with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
The security worker was taken to Broward Health.
A spokesperson for Broward County said another person suffered minor injuries.
The building was under demolition as part of the new courthouse construction project.
The 200 block of Southeast 6th Street was closed as crews cleaned up.
