Barbara Britton, originally accused of killing her first husband more than two decades ago, will have a new beginning.

On Tuesday, she was sentenced to two years under GPS monitoring and eight years of probation after accepting a plea deal from prosecutors.

It all began when Britton’s first husband, David Jackson, went missing in 1988.

In 2004, 16 years later, Jackson's remains were found in Miramar. Britton was accused of conspiring with her new husband, Michael Wolfe, to kill him.

But in a bizarre turn of events, Wolfe's prison mate testified that Britton had nothing to do with the killing. In September 2010, Britton, then 45, was able to post bail and walk free.

She professed her innocence in court Tuesday.

"I would like for all of you to know that I was not present when David was killed," Britton said.

As part of the plea deal, Britton's murder charge has been dropped. She accepted a charge of accessory to murder instead.

Jackson's mother, Judy Carlson, read a prepared statement in court. She said she wanted the judge to know she believes Britton is capable of killing again.

"I wanted him to know the true story. I wanted him to know she is a killer," Carlson said.

Keith Seltzer, Britton's attorney, said Britton is looking forward to moving on with her life and finding a job.
