Boy, 3, injured in fall from pickup truck

A 3-year-old boy was rushed to Broward General Hospital on Thursday afternoon after a Good Samaritan stepped in to call 911 after he said he saw the child "convulsing."

An eyewitness told Local 10 the child was with his parents and older brother when the family pulled into a Public Storage facility in Lauderhill to rent a second storage unit.

Lee Heisler all of a sudden noticed that the 3-year-old seemed listless and was staring into space. He said the boy looked "out of it."

Then the 3-year-old began shaking and convulsing. Heisler said the kid's mother quickly picked him up and cradled him as she explained how he had fallen out of the family's pickup truck at their Plantation home 15 minutes prior.

Heisler said he got the impression the parents really didn't think anything was wrong with the boy until he started shaking at the Public Storage facility, almost like he was having a seizure.

The parents told him that after the boy fell from the truck, they consoled him, and he briefly fell asleep. The family thought everything was OK, even though there was a lump on the back of the boy's head.

Heisler said as a grandfather, it pained him to see the boy displaying signs of a possible concussion, which is why he stepped in and offered to call 911. He said the boy's mother appeared grateful for the suggestion and assistance.
