A man is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase along I-95 Wednesday morning.
The suspect then crashed his car, bailed out and ran through a Miami Gardens neighborhood.
Miami police said the chase began with a robbery of a Starbucks at 6815 Biscayne Boulevard. The robbery happened just before 7 a.m.
According to Miami police, an off-duty firefighter saw a man running out of the Starbucks with a money bag.
“He went down 79th Street," said police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said. "We gave chase. Other agencies were involved. We believe that they may be involved in other robberies based on the description of the car."
The suspect drove a white sedan northbound on I-95 for several miles, merging onto Florida's Turnpike.
The chase ended when the man crashed his car on the ramp to the Turnpike. Within seconds, he got out of the car, carrying what appeared to be a handful of money. He then darted over the guardrail and across the ramp to a nearby fence.
The man then climbed over the fence and into a neighborhood, where he approached a woman who was getting into her car at a home along Northwest 175th Street.
The woman ran from the suspect, who then got into the woman's car. Moments later, he sprinted back out into the street and ran along Northwest Sunshine State Parkway.
It was there that police caught up with him and took him into custody.
