Gov. Rick Scott set to sign texting while driving ban

Florida is set to become the 40th state to ban texting while driving.

Gov. Rick Scott is set to sign the ban into law Tuesday afternoon at Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School.

In a statement, Scott said that texting while driving concerns him as a father and a grandfather. He said state officials must do everything they can to keep the roads safe, particularly during the summer. Scott says the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the deadliest days on the road for teenagers.

Earlier Tuesday, Scott will hold a news conference in West Palm Beach to sign a bill providing state funding for his $880 million long-term Everglades restoration plan.
