Running off to join the circus: it's something people joke about, but not many actually get the chance to do it.
But that's been the plan for one Weston kid ever since he can remember. This summer, Wesley "Woo Woo" Williams is making his own dreams come true, by joining the Circus Smirkus!
Williams' love of clowning around began at his third birthday party when a clown came to perform. Now, that's his job. Using his nickname "Woo Woo," he entertains crowds and can be spotted around his neighborhood juggling fire or riding around on a unicycle.
"He has a natural need to entertain," his mother, Trish, told Local 10's MJ Acosta. "He's never nervous. The more attention he gets, the better he gets!"
"I just love the feeling of performing," Williams said. With the Circus Smirkus, he'll do just that -- performing 70 shows under the Big Top.
"I'm going to get to go out there every day and perform for 700 to 800 people and do what I love," Williams said. "It's going to be so fun."
Joining the ranks of Circus Smirkus was no easy feat. Williams had to go through online and in-person auditions to be selected as one of the 28 performers in this season's shows.
But the summer job won't satisfy Williams' dreams for success.
"My all-time dream is to perform with Ringling Brothers," he said.
There's a good chance he'll get there. He's been part of shows featuring Ringling's Tom Dougherty, who has expressed interest in him auditioning when he's older.
"When I go out there and perform, I'm trying to make them laugh. I'm trying to bring them from their troubles. I'm trying to amaze them and I get a lot back from them," Williams said.
