Students at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School celebrated Pope Francis' inauguration mass Tuesday.

Francis officially became the pontiff during the ceremony at the Vatican.

Francis is the first non-European and first Jesuit pope, which makes student and faculty members at Belen Jesuit proud.

"We prayed for his health, his well being, the church as a whole," said senior Steven Tyler.

"For him to be a Jesuit pope, it's so close to us because we have been learning about his life and about the conclave and things like that in school," said senior Kenji Martinez. "A lot more of a connection because he is more of a friendly person with the people."

"It was a show of the kind of man that he is, very simple and close to the people," said Jesuit Priest Pedro Suarez.
