University of Miami Police arrested a man who, investigators say, stole a laptop from a student and then tried returning it for a $1,000 reward.
The suspect, Del'Neco Streeter, was arrested late Wednesday.
According to police, a student had his laptop stolen from his dorm room on Tuesday. He was able to put a message on the screen of the laptop saying he would pay $1,000 for its return.
The next day, a caller told the student he wanted to return the laptop for the reward.
UMPD officers went to the meeting site to recover the laptop. When Streeter arrived at the BankUnited Center and approached the student, he saw the officers and ran away. He was arrested a short time later.
Streeter told police the laptop was stolen by a friend, according to an arrest report. He was charged with dealing in stolen property and resisting an officer without violence.
A second suspect remains on the loose.
