Pedestrian hit, killed in Fort Lauderdale

A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle in Fort Lauderdale Saturday, according to authorities.

It happened just before 7 p.m. at Northwest 31st Avenue and 14th Street.

An eyewitness on the scene told Local 10's Christina Vasquez a man was jaywalking and the driver of a white van couldn't stop in time.

The pedestrian was hit hard, the witness said.

Authorities said the man was transported to Broward General in critical condition.

The driver is cooperating with investigators and charges have not been filed, authorities said.

Locals said the road is dark and has limited crosswalks.

Authorities said the pedestrian was a man between 55 and 60 years.

Locals said the man lives in the area and is known as "Muscle."

The names of the pedestrian and the driver have not been released.
