As voting precincts gear up to open their doors on Election Day, everyone is hoping for a smooth day at the polls.
The cutoff time for voters to request an absentee ballot at Broward County Supervisor of Election's Office in Lauderhill was 5 p.m. Monday. Absentee ballots can still be dropped off before polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
WHERE TO VOTE: Broward County
Despite the demand, there were short lines, a big change from early voting last week.
"We tried to keep some kind of a control or order to it. That's why we asked people to call ahead and schedule because we produce the ballot for the individual before they show up," said Broward Supervisor of Elections Dr. Brenda Snipes.
Voters who didn't schedule an appointment were still allowed to vote absentee.
The shorter lines allowed elections officials to prepare for the big day on Tuesday, including setting up 786 voting precincts throughout Broward County.
The layout is first drawn out on a map and in a few hours, it's ready for voters.
"We're ready, we're ready. We've been planning for awhile, that's for sure," said Rudy Quintana, who set up voting equipment at a polling location in the King's Point development in Tamarac.
"It's a major process. There's 786 precincts that we have to set up for over 500 different locations and we have to determine how much equipment goes where," said Snipes.
Emergency plans were being studied in case something unforeseen happens.
"Poll workers, I think they've been very well trained, they know what they're supposed to do," said Snipes. "I think voters will be able to go into their precinct, show their ID, get a ballot, and be out in less than 20 minutes if they know what to vote."
