A Broward Sheriff's Office motorcycle deputy died Wednesday night after his motorcycle crashed with another vehicle in Pompano Beach Wednesday afternoon.
"It is with a heavy heart to report that Deputy Christopher Schaub died as a result of his injuries in motorcycle accident in the line of duty," wrote Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti on his Facebook page Thursday morning. Schaub, 47, was a 22-year veteran of BSO who worked in the Pompano Beach district.
His body, draped by an American flag, was ceremoniously taken from Broward Health Medical Center Wednesday night as hundreds of officers looked on.

A motorcade with dozens of motorcycle officers led the procession to the medical examiner's office.
BSO said Schaub was fighting for his life before entering surgery Wednesday evening.
"His heart gave out six times. And he was brought back to life, and kept struggling, struggling, struggling to the point he couldn't struggle any more," said Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti.
Dozens of officers from various law enforcement agencies went to the hospital as a show of support.
"If the hundreds of people inside are any reflection, he's a well loved employee, very hard worker, and what we've learned today is, he's a fighter," said BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella on Wednesday afternoon.
Schaub leaves behind a son, who is also a BSO deputy, and a daughter.
The crash happened at McNab Road and Andrews Avenue at about 2:30 p.m.
A woman driving a Mercedes involved in the accident was transported to Broward Health North. Her injuries were not as serious, police said.
Schaub was initially listed in critical condition after being airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center.
It's unclear what led up to the accident, which is under investigation. Witnesses told Local 10 they heard the motorcycle pull out of the intersection and then heard a loud bang.
"In the middle of the intersection, (the deputy) was hit by a Mercedes and he went flying up in the air, and, as you can see, the motorcycle is totally destroyed," said one witness.
