A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot by police in Lauderhill.
It happened in the 1700 block of Northwest 31st Avenue about 2 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say officers were called out to reports of a suspicious man walking near a metal scrapping yard.
Officers arrived to find a man with a gun in his hand.
"At some point during that encounter, they fired their weapons and the male was struck," said Lauderhill Police Capt. Rick Rocco.
Worker at the site say the victim is a 79-year-old man who works as a security guard at the recycling plant. Police would not confirm it.
"He had it in his hand. Whether he held it up or pointed it, that is still under investigation," said Rocco.
None of the officers that were involved in the shooting were hurt.
The shooting is still under investigation.
