A Lauderdale Lakes company is making water out of the air.
“A lot of people look at it and say how can you do that? But the fact is dehumidifiers and air conditioners have been making water since they were born,” said Jeffrey Szur of Drinkable Air.
Drinkable Air began manufacturing atmospheric water generators last year. The machines work by drawing in the natural humidity in the air and purifying the liquid created. No plumbing hookups necessary.
“We just felt that water was going to be the next oil and so we did a lot of research and development as to how we could get involved in producing pure water,” said Szur.
We found some taste testers who couldn’t tell the difference.
“I never heard of water coming from air. It's very interesting. Very, very interesting,” said Sandra Green.
"I mean it’s just pure as can be,” said Kevin Kennedy.
Dr. George Green has been using the system in his dental office for a few months.
“We have less incidence of post-operative infection that can occur. In fact, we had no incidences of it. We also find that it’s much cheaper to manufacture water from Drinkable Air as opposed to buying it,” said Green.
Szur believes the device could help solve water shortages worldwide -- from droughts to disaster relief.
“Where everyone always looks at a hot, humid day and I have to go out in this, we all at Drinkable air say, 'It’s great water making weather,'” said Szur.
