People living in a Opa-locka neighborhood say two men were shot and killed during a party at a restaurant on Saturday.
Witnesses said the shooting happened at Lowe's BBQ near Northwest 151st Street and 18th Avenue late Saturday.
Opa-locka police said up to five people were shot, but have not confirmed if any have died.
Witnesses said about 70 people showed up to honor a gun violence victim.
Witnesses said two people began shooting at two men, killing them both.
Sources said two Opa-locka patrol officers are supposed to be on patrol in that area each evening. The investigation will also look into where those officers were at the time of the shooting.
"It saddens us because it happened in our area when we are trying to stop the crime," said Patricia Jones, who lives in the neighborhood.
Jones' father founded the Sonlight Missionary Baptist Church, which has been involved in neighborhood ministry.
"We've been here 30 years up and on top of this triangle," she said.
Jones said her parents used to walk door-to-door, handing out Christian pamphlets before they decided to open the church.
On Sunday, three generations of the Jones' family held a service. Jones' mother is now the pastor and her 14-year-old daughter sings.
They were the only three in the church. The ladies passionately sang songs and spoke scripture to rows of empty pews.
But outside mounted just above the church's name is a speaker that broadcasts the uplifting sound coming from inside the building.
Jones said they do it so people outside can hear their message, even if they don't come inside.
She said the area surrounding the church has always been a challenging neighborhood. In years past, they would spot people selling drugs in broad daylight.
But since the speaker was installed outside the church, some of that activity had died off.
"We've seen a miracle," Jones added.
Miami-Dade homicide detectives are now investigating but a spokesperson for the department told us no information is available as of Sunday evening. In an e-mail to Local 10, Miami-Dade Detective Alvaro Zabaleta wrote: “While the office is on "On-Call" status, updates are not available.”
