The family of accused Aurora, Colo. shooter James Holmes released a statement Saturday through San Diego police, KGTV in San Diego confirmed.
"Our hearts go out to those who were involved in this tragedy, and to the families and friends of those involved," the statement said in a USA Today article. "We ask that the media respects our privacy during this difficult time. Our family is cooperating with authorities in both San Diego, Calif., and Aurora, Colo. We are still trying to process this information and we appreciate that people will respect our privacy."
Saturday the Arapahoe County coroner's office positively identified 11 of the 12 victims of the mass shooting.
The victims identified on Saturday were: Jessica N. Ghawi, 24; Veronica Moser-Sullivan, 6; John T. Larimer, 27; Alexander J. Boik, 18; Jesse E. Childress, 29; Jonathan T. Blunk, 26; Rebecca Ann Wingo, 32; Alex M. Sullivan, 27; Gordon W. Cowden, 51; Micayla C. Medek, 23; and Alexander C. Teves, 24.
The coroner said Matthew R. McQuinn, 27, has been presumptively identified and officials are awaiting official identification.
The cause of death in all cases was related to gunshot wounds.
