A man who wouldn't rest until he found a dog he saw fall from the Brickell Avenue bridge is now taking care of the lucky pooch.

David Bernstein watched Tuesday night as a white mixed-breed dog toppled five stories from the Brickell Avenue drawbridge. He searched for the dog, but he couldn't find her, so he returned the next day.

Then, Bernstein found the dog trapped in the foundation of the bridge.

"So many different things could have gone wrong, should have gone wrong. It's like threading a needle. It really is. It's the most amazing thing," Bernstein said.

The dog was released Thursday from the Brickell Animal Hospital.

"It's just unbelievable that there's nothing wrong with her. They did blood work on her, and pretty much across the board, she's all good to go," Bernstein said.

The dog's home with Bernstein isn't permanent. Bernstein has a German shepherd and doesn't have room for both pooches.

Because the dog had a shirt on when she was found, Bernstein believes her owner is out there. He and a veterinarian plan to care for the dog until her owner comes forward.
