Miami-Dade police said an officer shot at a man who tried to run him over with a truck after a traffic stop Friday morning.
According to investigators, the officer was on patrol near Southwest 216th Street and 112th Avenue when he spotted a black Ford F-150 whose records came back as stolen.
The officer pulled over the truck, but as he walked up to it, Miami-Dade police said the driver tried to hit the officer with the vehicle.
Police said the officer shot at the driver, who started driving west.
The officer followed the truck, and the driver pulled over at Southwest 232nd Street and 187th Avenue, got out and ran away.
Police established a perimeter to search for the man. Miami-Dade investigators said they found blood in the vehicle, leading them to believe that the driver was injured.
Officers took the suspect, Leon Fitzgerald Harrigan, 48, into custody nearby. He was taken to a hospital for medical attention and was listed in stable condition.
Harrigan faces a burglary charge. He also was wanted on two outstanding warrants for charges of fleeing and eluding and grand theft. Police said more charges are pending.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
