A neurosurgeon is set to be Tuesday's leadoff witness in the trial of 17-year-old Wayne Treacy. The doctor treated Josie Lou Ratley after Treacy punched, kicked and stomped her head in 2010 outside her middle school. The attack happened after the two exchanged a series of insulting text messages.
Treacy is claiming innocence by reason of insanity. His lawyer says Treacy was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder brought on by the suicide of his brother a few months before the assault on Ratley.
If convicted of attempted first-degree murder, Treacy could get up to 50 years in prison.
