Tropical Storm Chris formed Tuesday afternoon in the open Atlantic, and the National Hurricane Center says it poses no threat to land.
At 11 p.m. Tuesday, Chris was about 565 miles south-southwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
It was moving east-southeast at 13 mph.
The storm did not prompt any watches or warnings, as forecasters said it does not threaten land.
Chris is forecast to become a tropical cyclone by Thursday morning.
