Flags were lowered to half staff across the state on Sunday to honor a state trooper killed in Haiti.
Trooper Jean Barthelus was shot and killed Friday in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His family says that he was in the country, taking care of his ailing wife.
Friends say it was a senseless shooting by strangers.
"He was in his car when they asked him to pull over. He thought there was a problem so he stopped and then they just shot him," said Dorothy Borgelin, who spoke on behalf of the family.
Trooper Barthelus was an eight year veteran of the FHP and was assigned to Troop E in Miami.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
