A missing 2-month-old boy was found dead in a car, and his father was taken into police custody, the Broward Sheriff's Office said Friday.
Janus Saintil faced a judge Saturday after being charged with murder, carjacking with a firearm, kidnapping, aggravated battery and robbery. He was denied bond on every count expect the aggravated battery charge.
The judge read the arrest affidavit which stated that the child, now known to be Josiah Saintil, was found underneath a diaper bag and blanket in a car seat and that he was cold to the touch and foaming at the mouth.
An Amber Alert was issued Friday for the 2-month-old, whom police believe was abducted by his father in Deerfield Beach on Thursday.
On Friday afternoon, Coral Springs police said the body of a child was found in the car at 11000 Royal Palm Boulevard in Coral Springs.
"When you say you've seen it all, this is one of those things. Obviously, it was almost like the baby was carelessly discarded inside the trunk, a total lack of respect for the baby's life," said Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti.
BSO said the incident began Thursday night when Janus Saintil was going to a North Lauderdale Walmart with his girlfriend, Claudia Harriott, 22, their son and two friends, Marissa Murray, 22, and Andrew Pennent, 22.
Police said Saintil and Harriott got into a fight and Saintil took out a gun, forcing Harriott and and the two others to drive to Port St. Lucie with the baby.
"He pistol whipped my friend Andrew a couple of times. He was beating up on his baby's mother in the backseat," said Murrary.
Police said Saintil left them in Port St. Lucie at a gas station, and told Harriott he planned on killing their son. Murray said Saintil smiled at Harriott as he told her.
"She [Harriott] said the whole time he was smiling at her. He had a grin on his face," said Murrary.
Police said Saintil then visited a woman at the Palm Trace condominiums. A woman at the Coral Springs apartment complex said she saw the baby about midnight Friday.
Police said Saintil left a half hour later and then returned without his son. Investigators believe he had put the child in the trunk.
Saintil was arrested Friday afternoon. He and an 18-year-old woman were taken into custody. The officer found the baby shortly afterward as he searched the car.
Patsy Harriott, the baby's grandmother, said they were doing okay.
"We're okay. It is hard," said Patsy Harriott.
Lamberti said an autopsy is scheduled for the baby.
Saintil family offered no comment on his arrest.
