Five people were rescued from a disabled 29-foot boat by the U.S. Coast Guard during rough weather Thursday afternoon.

According to the Coast Guard, the boat lost one of its two engines and ran out of gas approximately 15 miles east of Miami Beach.

The crew of the 87-foot Miami Beach-based cutter Diamondback battled 9-foot sea swells to rescue the passengers and tow the boat back in.

Everyone on board was wearing life jackets.

The U.S. Coast Guard reminds boaters to file a float plan before heading out to sea, and make sure their vessel is equipped with life jackets, VHF-FM radios, distress signals and air horns or whistles.
