Several roads will be closed near Bayfront Park Thursday for the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run which is expected to draw more than 20,000 people.
The run is considered the largest 5k in the Southeast and winds through the streets of Downtown Miami.
Organizers are predicting a record-breaking crowd because 22,800 participants from 835 teams have signed up.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the South Florida chapter of the American Red Cross.
The race begins Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at Bayfront Park.
Road closures begin at 3 p.m.
3:00 p.m. Northbound lanes of Biscayne Blvd, from Chopin Plaza to NE 5th Street will close. Southbound lanes will offer two-way traffic. Special attention will be given to the entry and exit of Chopin Plaza (Hotel Intercontinental and One Biscayne).
3:30 p.m. The first of the 22,800 expected participants will begin arriving – Traffic will increase.
5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Participants continue to arrive – street detours/lane closures begin.
6:00 p.m. Northbound Brickell Avenue traffic will be detoured west on to SE 7th Street. Only traffic going to Hotel Intercontinental and One Miami will be allowed to cross over the Brickell Bridge.
6:30 p.m. The race course will be shut down.
6:45 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Actual race time.
7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Roadways will reopen as the last of the participants pass and the Miami Police Department deems it safe. Estimated times: • Brickell Avenue: 7:30 p.m. • Miami Avenue South of the River: 7:45 p.m. • SW/NW 2nd Avenue: 8:00 p.m. • Miami Avenue North of the River: 8:15 p.m. • NW/NE 1st Street: 8:20 p.m. • Remaining Streets reopen: 8:30 p.m.
12:00 a.m. Northbound Biscayne Blvd will reopen to traffic.
