Susy Castillo doesn't use laundry detergent anymore
She relies on SmartKlean's Laundry Ball to clean her wash.
”I used it on the gym clothes and it worked awesome. I stepped it up to my bed sheets and towels and stuff, and it worked awesome,” said Castillo.
It was so awesome, in fact, Castillo hasn't used detergent in two years. She said the Laundry Ball saves her money, keeps her wash chemical-free and leaves her clothes fresher.
The baseball-sized Laundry Ball is filled with 4 kinds of mineral pellets that interact with water.
“The pH level of the water elevates to a level 10, which makes it easier for the water to remove the dirt from your fabrics,” said SmartKlean’s Juan Francisco.
SmartKlean said each ball will clean a load per day for a full year.
Each ball sells for $45 online. The pellets come from Sweden. The balls are assembled in Texas and shipped from a Miami warehouse.
Local 10 producer Lauren Berger agreed to give it a try. She does a lot of laundry, mostly play clothes for her 3-year-old son, Hudson.
”I definitely felt like the clothes were clean. I thought some of the stains were still there for the really dirty clothes, because his clothes get really dirty,” said Berger.
For her, the Laundry Ball works best on lighter loads.
”I'm not all-in. I don't think I would go solely Laundry Ball," said Berger.
"It's a win-win situation. It's worth a try, at least. I tell everybody," said Castillo.
She said she saves about $2,000 a year using the ball. She said she is saving on electricity, water, and keeping clothes longer.
