Members of the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) are rallying behind a South Florida restaurant that has been receiving messages of hate.
"Everybody is coming together to say this is unacceptable," said Andrew Rosenkranz, Florida regional director of the ADL.
The Israeli owner of the Mozart Cafe, a kosher restaurant in Deerfield Beach, started finding anti-Semitic notes several months ago.
At a popular place where many customers are Jewish, owner Shimi Aevi said he didn't hesitate to call police.
"I pay attention to everything that happens like that. And I really take this serious," Aevi said.
Aevi said the suspicious activity started in December when there was a gas leak at the restaurant which forced an evacuation.
A week later, he started finding hateful handwritten messages.
The first was placed on the window of an employee's car; others were taped onto a back door and a back wall of the restaurant.
The expletive-filled messages were written in black ink. Some were scrawled on Monopoly money and one was written on a Broward County bus pass. Most of them had a drawing of the Star of David and made one cryptic demand: "Take the Long Way Home."
Aevi said it was not clear what that means.
"This is absolutely unacceptable in our community," Rosenkranz said.
Detectives are investigating the gas leak although they have not confirmed it was suspicious. They are also looking at the notes and reviewing surveillance video from inside the restaurant.
The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the incidents as part of a possible hate crime.
"We stand beside them, and support them, to ensure this doesn't happen again," said BSO District Chief Pete Sudler.
"I don't want [anything] to happen in Deerfield Beach and I hope everybody is going to continue to support and continue to take this seriously," Aevi said.
