A car crashed through a barrier as it exited Interstate 95 at State Road 84 and fell onto an Interstate 595 ramp below Tuesday afternoon, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
Matt Little, a spokesman for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, said the crash occurred about 1:30 p.m.
Fort Lauderdale police said the white two-door BMW failed to negotiate the turn onto westbound State Road 84 correctly, hitting the center median wall on State Road 84, which caused it to go airborne.
The car flew toward the south, hitting and damaging a guard wall, over which it then launched, police said. The BMW fell 30 to 40 feet onto the southbound I-95 ramp to I-595, police said.
The driver was taken to Broward General Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Little said. Police said he is in stable condition.
After the crash, drivers could not access I-595 or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport from southbound I-95.
Some lanes also were closed on southbound I-95.
