A wealthy Palm Beach polo mogul is set to go on trial in the drunken-driving death of a 23-year-old man on his way to visit his family.

John Goodman's DUI manslaughter case is scheduled to open Tuesday in West Palm Beach.

Police say a drunken Goodman rammed his black Bentley convertible into Scott Wilson's car two years ago, causing it to roll into a canal. Goodman is accused of leaving the scene and waiting nearly an hour to call 911 as Wilson died.

Goodman was later found to have a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

Wilson's parents have also filed a $100 million civil lawsuit against Goodman for the damages.

Goodman is a billionaire and the founder of the International Polo Club Palm Beach. He'll be represented in court by attorney Roy Black, who has previously defended Rush Limbaugh and William Kennedy Smith.

Goodman grabbed headlines earlier this year after he adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend, Heather Hutchins. Despite their relationship, Hutchins is now legally considered Goodman's daughter, which gives her access to his other two children's trust fund and the ability to withdraw money from it immediately.
