Police are investigating after they found a girl wandering alone on the property of an apartment building, and found a grenade inside the bedroom of her father's apartment.

Miami police received a call about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday about a 3-year-old girl wandering alone on the building's property at 922 Southwest 3rd Street.

When officers arrived, police said they did a door-to-door search. They said the girl lives at the apartment with her dad and his girlfriend, but police were unable to find either of them.

The girl pinpointed them in the right direction of which unit she lives in and so did a neighbor. Police said officers found a door wide open and stepped inside to alert an adult, but found no one.

Police said officers then entered the apartment to determine if medical assistance was needed.

When they checked a bedroom, police said they did see a grenade, several assault rifles and an arsenal of ammunition. It was in plain view and easily accessible, but it is unclear if it was loaded.

Afterwards, Local 10's Terrell Forney reports the apartment building was evacuated and the bomb squad was called. They later gathered everything and left the scene.

Police said the girl was taken to the Miami Police Department and the Department of Children and Families was called.

A neighbor said he last saw the girl's father on Wednesday. He said his name is Luis Bianchi, but this has not been confirmed by police at this time.

Detectives are currently searching for the parents of this child. Anyone with information is asked to call the Miami Police Department's Homicide Unit at 305-603-6350. Those with information that wish to remain anonymous can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (4877), or online here.
