A Delray Beach teen found at a Hialeah motel after messaging her mother, telling her she was "in trouble" and in the trunk of a car, was not abducted, Delray Beach police said Thursday.
Police said Jade Beneby, 17, went willingly to Miami-Dade County on Tuesday with a man whom she met online the night before.
A statewide search was conducted Tuesday morning after Beneby sent text messages to her mother, saying she was in trouble and in the trunk of a silver car.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents found her at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the El Paraiso motel on Okeechobee Road in Hialeah, from where they towed a silver Mercedes.
Police said they noticed some "inconsistencies" in Beneby's story and confronted her. Beneby confessed to going willingly, Delray Beach police said.
Investigators have interviewed the man with whom Beneby was found.
