The man being sought in connection with the shooting death of a Port St. Lucie man was found dead in Coral Springs Monday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m., a body was found in the 7100 block of Sample Road, in a grassy area adjacent to the sidewalk.
"A passerby did observe him about 8:30 this morning laying on the side of the road at which time he did call 911 and we located him," said Coral Springs Police Lt. Joe McHugh.
Harold Frankel spotted the body Monday morning. He pulled over, parked his car and went to check on the man. That's when he called 911.
"Driving home, I just saw a body," Frankel said. "I thought it was someone sleeping in the field."
When officers arrived, they found the victim had a severe wound on the top of his head. Police later identified the man as Mikhail Sergatiouk, who they had been seeking in connection with the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Aleksandr Gorbach.
Gorbach was found in the kitchen of his waterfront home Saturday evening. His wife and two children were home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed.
"We did find a sawed off, double barrel shotgun - located underneath the body. As of right now, it appears it was a self inflicted gunshot wound," McHugh said.
However final determination of death is pending results from the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office.
It's unclear what motive may have been behind the shooting but Local 10 has learned that Sergatiouk and Gorbach were former business partners. Records from the Florida Department of State indicate the two men were managers of an inactive corporation called Bauer Comfort USA LLC. It was founded in 2007, though online profiles say the company has been in business for 20 years.
The company, which claims to sell wool products out of Germany for beds, was based out of Gorbach's Port St. Lucie home.
The business dissolved in 2011.
