Traffic officers who pulled over a tractor-trailer seen making an improper lane change on Interstate 95 on Wednesday evening found 51 pounds of marijuana inside several duffel bags, along with $58,000 in cash, according to the Kingsland Police Department.
Officers manning a radar station near mile marker 3 about 8:20 p.m. saw the Freightliner tractor pulling a refrigerated trailer with Florida license tags south on the highway. After seeing the big rig improperly change lanes, Kingland police Officer Mike Walker stopped the vehicle and met with the driver, 29-year-old Enrique Correa, of Miami.
A search of the trailer turned up several bags containing a large amount of green leafy substance packaged inside clear plastic bags. The plants field-tested positive for marijuana.
Correa (picture, right) was arrested on charges of trafficking marijuana and improper lane change and booked into the Camden County jail. The marijuana was placed into evidence and the cash and vehicle were seized pending forfeiture.
The officers involved attended last month a training course on narcotics interdiction with focus on commercial vehicles given by the North Florida High Drug Traffic Area. Kingsland police is a member agency of the program.
