Police have arrested a 22-year-old man wanted in connection to an attempted armed carjacking robbery.
The incident happened at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of 6175 West 20th Avenue in Hialeah.
According to Hialeah police, the victim was unloading items from the trunk of his vehicle when approached by Corey Berry, who police said pointed a gun at him.
Berry took the man's car keys and tried to start the engine, but vehicle didn't start. Police said Berry quickly fled the scene on foot with the man's car keys in hand.
Ten minutes later at 1670 West 62nd Street, police said Berry struck again. This time, authorities said the victim had just arrived home when he was confronted at gunpoint by Berry, who stole the man's 2007 Silver Toyota Yaris and immediately fled the scene.
Berry was driving the stolen vehicle when he was arrested Saturday, said police.
Police said an extensive county-wide search was conducted for Berry and the vehicle immediately following the incident, but he managed to elude police until Saturday. Berry was detained with the help of Miami-Dade police in the area of Northwest 12th Avenue and 54th Street in Miami.
Hialeah detectives said they gathered sufficient evidence, including incriminating statements, to arrest and charge him with multiple felony counts, including two counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted carjacking, one count of carjacking and four counts of probation violation.
Police said Berry is currently on probation for an armed carjacking, which occurred in 2009.
