A steady stream of Miami firefighters visited the Ryder Trauma Center Monday to comfort the family of Hector Seiglie, a 22-year veteran of the department, who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash Monday morning.
"We'd like to see him recover and get well and he has our support," said fellow firefighter R. Iglesias.
At around 6 a.m., the 51-year-old father of three was riding his motorcycle to Fire Station #5, a dive team station.
"He was driving into work this morning and a truck turned left into him on Dixie Highway and 22nd Avenue," said Seiglie's brother, David Seiglie.
David Seiglie told Local 10 his brother was wearing a helmet, but the collision knocked him unconscious and he suffered severe internal injuries.
Hector Seiglie's eldest son and sister asked for prayers and a quick recover for a man who is known to be a bit of a daredevil and adrenaline junkie.
"He's loving," his brother said. "He loves to try new things and he's just a great guy."
His family says Seiglie loves being a firefighter and helping other people. He is a master diver who has spent two decades saving other people's lives. Ironically, he's now fighting for his own life.
