Local 10 has learned Miami Beach's Nikki Beach club has fired one of its bartenders for drinking on the job, in a move considered fallout from the DUI case against another former bartender, Karlie Tomica.
Nikki Beach officials said they were examining hours of restaurant surveillance video, looking for signs of whether Tomica had been drinking on the job the morning of Jan. 28, when she was involved in a suspected DUI death.
At about 11:30 pm. the night before, officials said they spotted another one of their bartenders on the video pouring herself a drink from a bottle behind the bar while on the job.
Had it not been for their interest in viewing Tomica's actions, managers would not have had reason to look at the video. On Sunday, they terminated the bartender, whom they are not identifying.
The video from Nikki Beach's 32 cameras is evidence in Tomica's case.
Tomica is accused of driving with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit when she allegedly hit and killed South Beach chef Stefano Riccioletti, half an hour after leaving her bartending shift the morning of Jan. 28.
