AT&T is blaming the rain for a cable failure that left many downtown Miami businesses without phone and internet service for more than a week.
"It's a disaster," said Isaac Gershon of the Video & Camera Center off Southeast 1st Street.
Gershon said he called AT&T every day since last Tuesday, but to no avail.
"They have no answer. They have no answer," he said.
Gershon's business relies heavily on online sales, so without internet service, his employees can't work.
"We lost credibility. Credibility is my business," he said.
On Wednesday, and AT&T worker showed up and Gershon invited Local 10's Ben Kennedy inside to watch the fix. But the technician stopped repairs when our cameras started rolling.
Just down the road at the 7-11 off East Flagler Street and the Optimystic Eyewear next door, the phones are down too, which means the credit cards machines don't work.
"Basically 80 to 90 percent of my customers pay with a credit card," said Gilberto Buitrago of Optimystic Eyewear. He says the outage is killing his business.
Buitrago told customers to grab cash from a nearby ATM, but he says most leave and don't return.
AT&T released this statement regarding the outage:
"As a result of the recent rains, we had a cable failure in the downtown Miami area last week. We were able to restore service to the majority of the impacted customers within 24 hours. Our technicians are working to have a small number of remaining customers fully restored. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused."
