A SWAT situation has ended after a man barricaded himself inside his home in the 3100 block of NE 31st Street in Pompano Beach.
Police say Mark Lee Thornton was hanging out with some friends when an argument started. As the men left the house, Thornton followed them outside and shot at them. When those men called police, Thornton barricaded himself inside his home. After a six hour standoff, police were able to remove Thornton from the home by using a "Flash Bang" to distract him.
This standoff has a much happier ending than one that happened just a few days earlier in a neighboring city. Early Friday morning, three people were killed and two were seriously wounded after a hostage situation inside an RV in Deerfield Beach. You can read more on that story here.
Police have arrested Thornton, and he could possibly face charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, among other charges.
