Free credit protection services have been offered to more than 1,400 Jackson Health System patients whose medical records have been missing since January.
Hospital officials made the breach public on Friday. Jackson spokesman Matthew Pinzur said the missing documents were either on their way to be scanned electronically or were returning from that process. The records did not include Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or financial statements.
The Miami Herald reports that Jackson Chief Executive Carlos Migoya has issued a memo saying the hospital system would make several changes to avoid future privacy breaches.
The patients whose records were lost have been offered an identity and credit information protection service, including credit monitoring and up to $20,000 of identity theft insurance.
