A South Florida pharmacy became a drive-thru establishment Tuesday when an elderly driver lost control of her car and smashed into the front window of the store.

It happened at the Hallandale Pharmacy. located at 1109 East Hallandale Beach Blvd.

Surveillance video shows the white Toyota Corolla slowly approaching the parking spot in front of the store. Suddenly the vehicle lurched forward, jumped the curb and crashed into the store.

The driver told Local 10's Roger Lohse that she was going to get her hair done when it happened.

"I was pulling in and I didn't seem to hit the brake and I went right through the window," said Roslind, who declined to give her last name.

According to Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue officials, the woman is in her 90s.

Shards of glass went flying into the store, but remarkably the car got hung up on the curb and didn't go any further inside.

There were more than a dozen employees and customers in the store at the time of the crash.

Witnesses took photographs of the vehicle's rear end sticking out of the pharmacy.

"I guess the good thing is that you weren't hurt," said Lohse.

"And nobody else was hurt either," the woman replied.

Hallandale Beach police and fire rescue crews were summoned to the scene. They helped Roslind get out of the car. After paramedics determined she was OK, she went to get her hair done.

But before she walked away, she explained why she may have confused the brake pedal for the gas.

"I had a cataract operation April 3rd and I'm probably not all better from it," she said.
