A memorial service to honor a Ohio man who died after being shot while volunteering in Haiti was held on Sunday.
Dave Bompart's wife, Nicolle Bompart, said her husband was shot Jan. 24 as he was leaving a bank in Haiti with money for an orphanage the couple was building there.
Bompart was in Haiti working with the non-profit organization Eyes Wide Open International.
According to Eyes Wide Open International, Bompart's wife wants to hold the service to thank those who worked with Dave in Haiti, and those who worked to save his life at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Nicole told Local 10 she does plan to see her husband's vision through and complete the orphanage with room for 40 children. She said they had purchased the land and had just laid down the foundation when the shooting happened. At just 10 percent complete, Nicole said they are continuing to accept donations to help finish the project. Visit eyeswideopenint.org to help.
Bompart will be buried in Ohio.
