Miami-Dade police investigate whether someone intentionally set a 42-year-old homeless woman on fire.
Linda Burwick was listed in stable condition at Kendall Regional Medical Center Wednesday morning.
She was burned at a makeshift camp at Southwest 216th Street and U.S. 1 late Tuesday.
When officers arrived to reports of a brush fire, they found Burwick on fire. Officers also found burned clothes and a blackened boat.
"I was coming from my house and I seen like fire and I just seen someone just say help. That's all I heard," said a man claiming to have witnessed the fire. "I didn't see nothing else -- I just seen this in flames. It was kind of shocking."
"Craziness. Pure insanity. I have no words," said Richard Leguirre, a friend of Burwick. "I think it was done on purpose. This is sick. This is sad. It's not right."
Burwick has a criminal record dating back to 1991, including charges of prostitution, burglary, and trespassing.
