Police: 2 shot in drive-by shooting in Homestead

Police are searching for three possible suspects who allegedly shot a 16-year-old boy and 20-year-old man Saturday afternoon.

The shooting happened after 3 p.m. Saturday at 12401 SW 251st Street.

Deborah Smith stood outside her home trying to learn whether her 20-year-old son, Henry, was alive.

"My daughter called and said my son got shot," said Smith.

The Homestead High School graduate was the victim of a drive-by shooting outside his mother's home.

"Some people don't have a heart, like no conscious," said Smith. "I just don't get it. I really don't."

Neighbors say Henry (pictured, right) and his 16-year-old friend were walking were walking to their car in the area of SW 124th Avenue and 251st Street when another car pulled up and opened fire.

"He had a shot in the back and was bleeding profusely from the front," said neighbor Rafael Acosta.

The daughter of a man who lives up the street said her father nearly crashed into the car the alleged shooters were in.

"He's driving in and see the boy laying on the floor with blood," said Acosta. "My stepmom was in the backyard cleaning and heard several gun shots."

The family dog was also shot. Animal services said it's most likely have to be put down.

"I have so much love for people. I just don't know how people can hurt other people," said Smith.

The two victims were airlifted to Kendall Regional. They are currently listed in stable condition.
