Davie police arrest two men accused of stealing an automated teller machine, then dumping it in a canal.
Police arrested Gary Hrinda and Kevin Bass on Sunday.
Hrinda, 24, was charged with grand theft between $5,000 and $300 and littering over 500 pounds. Bass, 27, was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of cannabis, illegal dumping, grand theft between $10,000 and $5,000, littering over 500 pounds, and an outstanding warrant for DUI property damage.
Police officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Southwest 136th Avenue about 10:20 a.m. Sunday in reference to two men dumping an ATM in a canal, according to the arrest affidavit.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle matching the description of one they were looking for about a block away from where the ATM was found.
Bass reportedly told police he found the ATM in the 10300 block of Pines Boulevard where the Pembroke Pines Fair was being set up, loaded it into his pick-up truck, then used a crowbar to break into it and take $2,000 in cash.
Bass and Hrinda gambled the money at Hard Rock Casino, according to the arrest affidavit. The pair broke the ATM into two pieces and threw them in the canal.
Because of the low water levels, neither piece of the ATM completely submerged.

A diver and crane later removed the ATM from the canal.
The owner of the ATM told police it had $4,980 inside when it was stolen. The box that contained the cash was found inside Bass' mobile home, according to the arrest affidavit.
"They're just scumbags, really," said neighbor Nick Russo.
