A University of Miami student is in critical condition after she was hit by a driver Friday afternoon in Miami, police say.
The Miami Dade Police Department said the incident occurred around 4 pm Friday in the 4200 block of SW 11th Street.
Investigators say Melita Jaric, 43, was walking across the street to get to her car.
Police said a car was driving westbound on the street and struck Jaric. The driver of the car then fled the area, continuing to travel westbound, without rendering aid, said police.
Authorities said Jaric was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
Police said there were no witnesses nearby that saw anything.
Officials said Jaric is a student who also works at the university.
Miami-Dade Police Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating this case.
