The owner of a high-end bicycle shop in Hollywood thanked Local 10's viewers for helping police arrest a man suspected of stealing two cameras worth $800.
Thomas Ingram was arrested Tuesday.
According to an arrest affidavit, a viewer who saw Local 10's report about the theft at Big Wheel Cycles told police he recognized Ingram as the suspect.
"It is amazing how effective the TV works," said Tony Chin, the owner of Big Wheel Cycles. "The day after, people were calling, 'We saw this guy on TV and we know him. Would you like us to identify him?'"
Chin said Ingram's sister and brother-in-law also identified him.
"His own sister and brother-in-law came in and said if we wanted, he would go with police and show him where this guy is hiding," said Chin.
Police say surveillance video showed a man enter the store and cut a security cable attached to two Go Pro cameras. He then looks around to see if any employee or customers notices, walks to another area of the store, waits a few seconds, and grabs the two cameras off the display and hides behind a rack while he stuffs them under his shirt.
Ingram later pawned the cameras, police say.
Ingram is charged with two counts of grand theft, two counts of false ownership information for pawned items, and two counts of dealing in stolen property.
Police say Ingram was on probation in connection with another burglary in September 2012. He lives three blocks from Big Wheel Cycles.
Ingram is being held on $17,500 bond.
