Unmarked FHP patrol car crashes into golf cart

A disabled golf cart traveling eastbound on SW 26th Street was struck by an unmarked Florida Highway Patrol vehicle after it was unable to stop in time on Saturday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said three teens were pushing the disabled golf cart with two teens sitting on the cart as it was being pushed.

The unmarked FHP vehicle was travelling behind the golf cart. Because the roadway had no lighting in the area, FHP said the driver of the patrol car was unable to brake in time and collided into the golf cart.

FHP said the right-front of the patrol car collided with the left-rear of the golf cart. After impact, officials said the FHP vehicle came to a stop east of the crash scene. The golf cart rotated clockwise and came to rest against the guardrail on the south side of the roadway.

Officials said the two teens who were sitting on the golf cart were transported to Broward Health Medical Center. The three teens that were pushing the golf cart did not sustain any reported injuries.
