Miami-Dade police said a woman and her two young sons were struck by a car Tuesday night, killing one of the boys.

It happened as they left a supermarket and started walking across busy SW 268th Street between SW 137th and 135th avenues. They did not use a pedestrian crosswalk.

"They landed on this side of the street coming from the store," Curtis Lee Nelson told Local 10's Baron James. It happened right between his house and Diaz Supermarket. "We were looking at them coming out."

Police say a green sedan with three men inside struck the woman and her boys. Then the car stopped.

"My brother's car," an emotionally distraught Esperanza Trevino told officers. "I'm just worried, and he's worried."

"Another car was coming fast, too. But it kept going," Nelson told investigators.

Nelson and his neighbors ran to the rescue of the mom and her sons before paramedics arrived.

"We ran out the gate to get him, and he was hopping. And we looked and saw the lady lying down; and so I ran to the lady. And then I saw the other little baby. I left the lady because the other little baby wasn't moving because he was twisted."

They were rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center; but one of the boys did not survive.

"I'm the one who's dying too. I have four kids of my own. And I would never imagine anything like this happening to my kids," Trevino said.

And neighbor, Crystal Lee, added: "It's a sad situation. Because they drive so crazy on this street, and now a child has lost his life."

The mother and her other son were upgraded from serious condition. Their names were not released Tuesday night pending notification of family. Also no one was arrested as police continued to question the driver investigating whether speed or any other cars were involved.
