Jen Fighting for You: Roof Battle

"If they're not going to insure me then I can't get insurance," Liberty City resident Valerie Bain told Local 10’s Jen Herrera.

Bian has lived in her home her entire life.

She knows all the work that's been done on every nook and cranny, so when she was contacted by Citizens Property Insurance and told she needed to replace her 25 year old roof or not get renewed, she knew there was a problem.

Valerie had her roof repaired *sixteen* years ago, but there was no paperwork on Valerie's end to prove it, which is what Citizen's wanted to see.

So she called us.

We got in touch with Citizens to tell them the roof wasn't that old, we were told they needed proof, so we got it.

Paul Bange Roofing came out to inspect the roof, to see if they could certify that it was still good to go.

"The shingle tabs are still repairable and that's what we look for whenever we look at a shingle roof.  Is it repairable? This roof still has life left in it," said Steve Bates from Paul Bange Roofing.

Paul Bange gives her roof the okay,  they estimate it will be another 3 to 5*years before a new one needs to be put on.

Then, there were just a couple things Valerie needed to do.

"Turn that paperwork into the insurance company with 2 pictures of roof and they're fine, but the average homeowner doesn't know that,” Paul Bange told Herrera.

"I'm so glad I called Local 10," said Bain.
