Officials have identified a woman who died following an accident on a small boat in Biscayne Bay on Saturday as 35-year-old Janette Africano.
Investigators are still not sure about the circumstances surrounding her death, but believe she may have been crushed between the boat she was riding on and the MacArthur Causeway bridge.
George Pino of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told Local 10 he believes Africano may have been trying to push the boat away from the causeway when it happened.
No other boats were involved in the accident, but officials said two boats nearby may have contained people who were with the woman who was killed.
Africano was taken onto land on Watson Island, and rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she later died.
She is believed to be the sister of a Hialeah police officer. On Saturday night, dozens of Hialeah police officers went to the family's home to pay their respects.
