Hollywood firefighter Derek Avilez, who doctors thought would be paralyzed for life, is preparing to return to work Monday.
Avilez will perform light duty at his Hollywood station.
He was severely injured in a skimboarding accident in September 2010 and doctors thought he would never walk again.
Since then, Avilez has made a miraculous recovery.
On Saturday, firefighters from Fort Lauderale and several other departments held a fundraiser in his honor.
The event took place at Markham Park and included a 5 mile, 10 mile, 20 mile, and 38 mile bike ride.
The money will help pay for Avilez's medical bills.
